Longfield Primary School celebrates merger with afternoon fair

Posted by Hannah Bewley on May 3, 12 09:46 AM in Schools

PUPILS commemorated the merging of their two schools with day-long celebrations.

Longfield Infant and Junior Schools became Longfield Primary School and now teaches almost 700 pupils in Dukes Avenue, North Harrow.

Students, teachers, governors and parents took part in the events on Friday, April 27, with special assemblies and a fair in the afternoon organised by the school's Friends group.

The mayor of Harrow, councillor Mrinal Choudhury, planted a lilac tree in the school grounds later in the afternoon.

Headteacher of the newly amalgamated school, Pam Virdee, said: "It was a wonderful day and there was a lovely atmosphere.

"The children all spent the day deciding what they would like to go in the time capsule which we are going to bury and the mayor came and planted a tree. He was great and spent a lot of time talking to the children and stayed for tea afterwards."

The school was amalgamated this academic year and has a new uniform and logo, which was designed by pupils.

We'd like to hear from you.
