Explosion man in court
By David Baker
Blast victim John Pearson appeared in court today (Thursday) accused of causing the Rayners Lane explosion which left him with severe burns.
The 35-year-old, who is recuperating with his father and step-mother in St Albans, Herts, appear before Harrow Magistrates' Court charged with arson recklessly endangering life.
Pearson spoke only to confirm his name and address, before the case was adjourned to Harrow Crown Court on October 2.
His top floor flat blew up on February 15, ripping the roof of the block, in Annan Court, in the Rayners Lane Estate, South Harrow.
Pearson was treated at the burns unit at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in west London for his injuries.
Just a few weeks ago he attended a darts league awards evening at the Royal British Legion in Northolt Road, South Harrow, where his team - South Harrow Sports and Social Club (SHAC) in Valentine Road, South Harrow collected the Thursday night league title.
News of Pearson's arrest shocked his friends at SHAC who told the Harrow Observer "they knew nothing about it".
